5:1 The elders among you I exhort, who am a fellow-elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, who am also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
5:1 Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as [your] fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed,

5:2 Tend the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not of constraint, but willingly, according to (the will of) God; nor yet for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
5:2 shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to [the will of] God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness;

5:3 neither as lording it over the charge allotted to you, but making yourselves ensamples to the flock.
5:3 nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock.

5:4 And when the chief Shepherd shall be manifested, ye shall receive the crown of glory that fadeth not away.
5:4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

5:5 Likewise, ye younger, be subject unto the elder. Yea, all of you gird yourselves with humility, to serve one another: for God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.
5:5 You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.

5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time;
5:6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time,

5:7 casting all your anxiety upon him, because he careth for you.
5:7 casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you.

5:8 Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour,
5:8 Be of sober [spirit,] be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

5:9 whom withstand stedfast in your faith, knowing that the same sufferings are accomplished in your brethren who are in the world.
5:9 But resist him, firm in [your] faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.

5:10 And the God of all grace, who called you unto his eternal glory in Christ, after that ye have suffered a little while, shall himself perfect, establish, strengthen you.
5:10 And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen [and] establish you.

5:11 To him (be) the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
5:11 To Him [be] dominion forever and ever. Amen.

5:12 By Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I account (him), I have written unto you briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand ye fast therein.
5:12 Through Silvanus, our faithful brother (for so I regard [him]), I have written to you briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it!

5:13 She that is in Babylon, elect together with (you), saluteth you; and (so doth) Mark my son.
5:13 She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you greetings, and [so does] my son, Mark.

5:14 Salute one another with a kiss of love. Peace be unto you all that are in Christ.
5:14 Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be to you all who are in Christ.
