21:1 And he looked up, and saw the rich men that were casting their gifts into the treasury.
21:1 And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury.
21:2 And he saw a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.
21:2 And He saw a certain poor widow putting in two small copper coins.
21:3 And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, This poor widow cast in more than they all:
21:3 And He said, "Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all [of them;]
21:4 for all these did of their superfluity cast in unto the gifts; but she of her want did cast in all the living that she had.
21:4 for they all out of their surplus put into the offering; but she out of her poverty put in all that she had to live on. "
21:5 And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and offerings, he said,
21:5 And while some were talking about the temple, that it was adorned with beautiful stones and votive gifts, He said,
21:6 As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in which there shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
21:6 "[As for] these things which you are looking at, the days will come in which there will not be left one stone upon another which will not be torn down."
21:7 And they asked him, saying, Teacher, when therefore shall these things be? and what (shall be) the sign when these things are about to come to pass?
21:7 And they questioned Him, saying, "Teacher, when therefore will these things be? And what [will be] the sign when these things are about to take place?"
21:8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not led astray: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am (he); and, The time is at hand: go ye not after them.
21:8 And He said, "See to it that you be not misled; for many will come in My name, saying, 'I am [He,'] and, 'The time is at hand'; do not go after them.
21:9 And when ye shall hear of wars and tumults, be not terrified: for these things must needs come to pass first; but the end is not immediately.
21:9 "And when you hear of wars and disturbances, do not be terrified; for these things must take place first, but the end [does] not [follow] immediately."
21:10 Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom;
21:10 Then He continued by saying to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom,
21:11 and there shall be great earthquakes, and in divers places famines and pestilences; and there shall be terrors and great signs from heaven.
21:11 and there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.
21:12 But before all these things, they shall lay their hands on you, and shall persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for my name's sake.
21:12 "But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and will persecute you, delivering you to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for My name's sake.
21:13 It shall turn out unto you for a testimony.
21:13 "It will lead to an opportunity for your testimony.
21:14 Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate beforehand how to answer:
21:14 "So make up your minds not to prepare beforehand to defend yourselves;
21:15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to withstand or to gainsay.
21:15 for I will give you utterance and wisdom which none of your opponents will be able to resist or refute.
21:16 But ye shall be delivered up even by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolk, and friends; and (some) of you shall they cause to be put to death.
21:16 "But you will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and they will put [some] of you to death,
21:17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake.
21:17 and you will be hated by all on account of My name.
21:18 And not a hair of your head shall perish.
21:18 "Yet not a hair of your head will perish.
21:19 In your patience ye shall win your souls.
21:19 "By your endurance you will gain your lives.
21:20 But when ye see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that her desolation is at hand.
21:20 "But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then recognize that her desolation is at hand.
21:21 Then let them that are in Judaea flee unto the mountains; and let them that are in the midst of her depart out; and let not them that are in the country enter therein.
21:21 "Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, and let those who are in the midst of the city depart, and let not those who are in the country enter the city;
21:22 For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
21:22 because these are days of vengeance, in order that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
21:23 Woe unto them that are with child and to them that give suck in those days! for there shall be great distress upon the land, and wrath unto this people.
21:23 "Woe to those who are with child and to those who nurse babes in those days; for there will be great distress upon the land, and wrath to this people,
21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led captive into all the nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
21:24 and they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled under foot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
21:25 And there shall be signs in sun and moon and stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, in perplexity for the roaring of the sea and the billows;
21:25 "And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and upon the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves,
21:26 men fainting for fear, and for expectation of the things which are coming on the world: for the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.
21:26 men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
21:27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
21:27 "And then they will see THE SON OF MAN COMING IN A CLOUD with power and great glory.
21:28 But when these things begin to come to pass, look up, and lift up your heads; because your redemption draweth nigh.
21:28 "But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."
21:29 And he spake to them a parable: Behold the fig tree, and all the trees:
21:29 And He told them a parable: "Behold the fig tree and all the trees;
21:30 when they now shoot forth, ye see it and know of your own selves that the summer is now nigh.
21:30 as soon as they put forth [leaves,] you see it and know for yourselves that summer is now near.
21:31 Even so ye also, when ye see these things coming to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh.
21:31 "Even so you, too, when you see these things happening, recognize that the kingdom of God is near.
21:32 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all things be accomplished.
21:32 "Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all things take place.
21:33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
21:33 "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
21:34 But take heed to yourselves, lest haply your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day come on you suddenly as a snare:
21:34 "Be on guard, that your hearts may not be weighted down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that day come on you suddenly like a trap;
21:35 for (so) shall it come upon all them that dwell on the face of all the earth.
21:35 for it will come upon all those who dwell on the face of all the earth.
21:36 But watch ye at every season, making supplication, that ye may prevail to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
21:36 "But keep on the alert at all times, praying in order that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man."
21:37 And every day he was teaching in the temple; and every night he went out, and lodged in the mount that is called Olivet.
21:37 Now during the day He was teaching in the temple, but at evening He would go out and spend the night on the mount that is called Olivet.
21:38 And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, to hear him.
21:38 And all the people would get up early in the morning [to come] to Him in the temple to listen to Him.
21:1 And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury.
