11:1 And it came to pass when Jesus had finished commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and preach in their cities.
11:1 And it came about that when Jesus had finished giving instructions to His twelve disciples, He departed from there to teach and preach in their cities.
11:2 Now when John heard in the prison the works of the Christ, he sent by his disciples
11:2 Now when John in prison heard of the works of Christ, he sent [word] by his disciples,
11:3 and said unto him, Art thou he that cometh, or look we for another?
11:3 and said to Him, "Are You the Expected One, or shall we look for someone else?"
11:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and tell John the things which ye hear and see:
11:4 And Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and report to John what you hear and see:
11:5 the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good tidings preached to them.
11:5 [the] BLIND RECEIVE SIGHT and [the] lame walk, [the] lepers are cleansed and [the] deaf hear, and [the] dead are raised up, and [the] POOR HAVE THE GOSPEL PREACHED TO THEM.
11:6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall find no occasion of stumbling in me.
11:6 "And blessed is he who keeps from stumbling over Me."
11:7 And as these went their way, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to behold? a reed shaken with the wind?
11:7 And as these were going [away,] Jesus began to speak to the multitudes about John, "What did you go out into the wilderness to look at? A reed shaken by the wind?
11:8 But what went ye out to see? a man clothed in soft (raiment)? Behold, they that wear soft (raiment) are in king's houses.
11:8 "But what did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft [clothing]? Behold, those who wear soft [clothing] are in kings' palaces.
11:9 But wherefore went ye out? to see a prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.
11:9 "But why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I say to you, and one who is more than a prophet.
11:10 This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way before thee.
11:10 "This is the one about whom it is written, 'BEHOLD, I SEND MY MESSENGER BEFORE YOUR FACE, WHO WILL PREPARE YOUR WAY BEFORE YOU.'
11:11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not arisen a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is but little in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
11:11 "Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen [anyone] greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and men of violence take it by force.
11:12 "And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force.
11:13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
11:13 "For all the prophets and the Law prophesied until John.
11:14 And if ye are willing to receive (it,) this is Elijah, that is to come.
11:14 "And if you care to accept [it,] he himself is Elijah, who was to come.
11:15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
11:15 "He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
11:16 But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the marketplaces, who call unto their fellows
11:16 "But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market places, who call out to the other [children],
11:17 and say, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance; we wailed, and ye did not mourn.
11:17 and say, 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.'
11:18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a demon.
11:18 "For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon!'
11:19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a gluttonous man and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! And wisdom is justified by her works.
11:19 "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax-gatherers and sinners!' Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds."
11:20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not.
11:20 Then He began to reproach the cities in which most of His miracles were done, because they did not repent.
11:21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
11:21 "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had occurred in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
11:22 But I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you.
11:22 "Nevertheless I say to you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in [the] day of judgment, than for you.
11:23 And thou, Capernaum, shalt thou be exalted unto heaven? thou shalt go down unto Hades: for if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in thee, it would have remained until this day.
11:23 "And you, Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You shall descend to Hades; for if the miracles had occurred in Sodom which occurred in you, it would have remained to this day.
11:24 But I say unto you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
11:24 "Nevertheless I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in [the] day of judgment, than for you."
11:25 At that season Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes:
11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, "I praise Thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that Thou didst hide these things from [the] wise and intelligent and didst reveal them to babes.
11:26 yea, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in thy sight.
11:26 "Yes, Father, for thus it was well-pleasing in Thy sight.
11:27 All things have been delivered unto me of my Father: and no one knoweth the Son, save the Father; neither doth any know the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son willeth to reveal (him.)
11:27 "All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son, except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father, except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal [Him.]
11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
11:28 "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
11:29 "Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and YOU SHALL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.
11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
11:30 "For My yoke is easy, and My load is light."
