2:1 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Moab, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime:
2:1 Thus says the LORD, "For three transgressions of Moab and for four I will not revoke its [punishment], Because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime.
2:2 but I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth; and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet;
2:2 "So I will send fire upon Moab, And it will consume the citadels of Kerioth; And Moab will die amid tumult, With war cries and the sound of a trumpet.
2:3 and I will cut off the judge from the midst thereof, and will slay all the princes thereof with him, saith Jehovah.
2:3 "I will also cut off the judge from her midst, And slay all her princes with him," says the LORD.
2:4 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Judah, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have rejected the law of Jehovah, and have not kept his statutes, and their lies have caused them to err, after which their fathers did walk:
2:4 Thus says the LORD, "For three transgressions of Judah and for four I will not revoke its [punishment], Because they rejected the law of the LORD And have not kept His statutes; Their lies also have led them astray, Those after which their fathers walked.
2:5 but I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.
2:5 "So I will send fire upon Judah, And it will consume the citadels of Jerusalem."
2:6 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Israel, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have sold the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes--
2:6 Thus says the LORD, "For three transgressions of Israel and for four I will not revoke its [punishment], Because they sell the righteous for money And the needy for a pair of sandals.
2:7 they that pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: and a man and his father go unto the (same) maiden, to profane my holy name:
2:7 "These who pant after the [very] dust of the earth on the head of the helpless Also turn aside the way of the humble; And a man and his father resort to the same girl In order to profane My holy name.
2:8 and they lay themselves down beside every altar upon clothes taken in pledge; and in the house of their God they drink the wine of such as have been fined.
2:8 "And on garments taken as pledges they stretch out beside every altar, And in the house of their God they drink the wine of those who have been fined.
2:9 Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.
2:9 "Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, Though his height [was] like the height of cedars And he [was] strong as the oaks; I even destroyed his fruit above and his root below.
2:10 Also I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and led you forty years in the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite.
2:10 "And it was I who brought you up from the land of Egypt, And I led you in the wilderness forty years That you might take possession of the land of the Amorite.
2:11 And I raised up of your sons for prophets, and of your young men for Nazirites. Is it not even thus, O ye children of Israel? saith Jehovah.
2:11 "Then I raised up some of your sons to be prophets And some of your young men to be Nazirites. Is this not so, O sons of Israel?" declares the LORD.
2:12 But ye gave the Nazirites wine to drink, and commanded the prophets, saying, Prophesy not.
2:12 "But you made the Nazirites drink wine, And you commanded the prophets saying, 'You shall not prophesy!'
2:13 Behold, I will press (you) in your place, as a cart presseth that is full of sheaves.
2:13 "Behold, I am weighted down beneath you As a wagon is weighted down when filled with sheaves.
2:14 And flight shall perish from the swift; and the strong shall not strengthen his force; neither shall the mighty deliver himself;
2:14 "Flight will perish from the swift, And the stalwart will not strengthen his power, Nor the mighty man save his life.
2:15 neither shall he stand that handleth the bow; and he that is swift of foot shall not deliver (himself); neither shall he that rideth the horse deliver himself;
2:15 "He who grasps the bow will not stand [his ground], The swift of foot will not escape, Nor will he who rides the horse save his life.
2:16 and he that is courageous among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day, saith Jehovah.
2:16 "Even the bravest among the warriors will flee naked in that day," declares the LORD.
