24:1 Again, in the ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth (day) of the month, the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
24:1 And the word of the LORD came to me in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth of the month, saying,
24:2 Son of man, write thee the name of the day, (even) of this selfsame day: the king of Babylon drew close unto Jerusalem this selfsame day.
24:2 "Son of man, write the name of the day, this very day. The king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day.
24:3 And utter a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Set on the caldron, set it on, and also pour water into it:
24:3 "And speak a parable to the rebellious house, and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "Put on the pot, put [it] on, and also pour water in it;
24:4 gather the pieces thereof into it, even every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones.
24:4 Put in it the pieces, Every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; Fill [it] with choice bones.
24:5 Take the choice of the flock, and also a pile (of wood) for the bones under (the caldron); make it boil well; yea, let the bones thereof be boiled in the midst of it.
24:5 "Take the choicest of the flock, And also pile wood under the pot. Make it boil vigorously. Also seethe its bones in it."
24:6 Wherefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe to the bloody city, to the caldron whose rust is therein, and whose rust is not gone out of it! take out of it piece after piece; No lot is fallen upon it.
24:6 'Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, "Woe to the bloody city, To the pot in which there is rust And whose rust has not gone out of it! Take out of it piece after piece, Without making a choice.
24:7 For her blood is in the midst of her; she set it upon the bare rock; she poured it not upon the ground, to cover it with dust.
24:7 "For her blood is in her midst; She placed it on the bare rock; She did not pour it on the ground To cover it with dust.
24:8 That it may cause wrath to come up to take vengeance, I have set her blood upon the bare rock, that it should not be covered.
24:8 "That it may cause wrath to come up to take vengeance, I have put her blood on the bare rock, That it may not be covered."
24:9 Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe to the bloody city! I also will make the pile great.
24:9 'Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, "Woe to the bloody city! I also shall make the pile great.
24:10 Heap on the wood, make the fire hot, boil well the flesh, and make thick the broth, and let the bones be burned.
24:10 "Heap on the wood, kindle the fire, Boil the flesh well, And mix in the spices, And let the bones be burned.
24:11 Then set it empty upon the coals thereof, that it may be hot, and the brass thereof may burn, and that the filthiness of it may be molten in it, that the rust of it may be consumed.
24:11 "Then set it empty on its coals, So that it may be hot, And its bronze may glow, And its filthiness may be melted in it, Its rust consumed.
24:12 She hath wearied (herself) with toil; yet her great rust goeth not forth out of her; her rust (goeth not forth) by fire.
24:12 "She has wearied [Me] with toil, Yet her great rust has not gone from her; [Let] her rust [be] in the fire!
24:13 In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have cleansed thee and thou wast not cleansed, thou shalt not be cleansed from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my wrath toward thee to rest.
24:13 "In your filthiness is lewdness. Because I [would] have cleansed you, Yet you are not clean, You will not be cleansed from your filthiness again, Until I have spent My wrath on you.
24:14 I, Jehovah, have spoken it: it shall come to pass, and I will do it: I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall they judge thee, saith the Lord Jehovah.
24:14 "I, the LORD, have spoken; it is coming and I shall act. I shall not relent, and I shall not pity, and I shall not be sorry; according to your ways and according to your deeds I shall judge you," declares the Lord GOD. '"
24:15 Also the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
24:15 And the word of the LORD came to me saying,
24:16 Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke: yet thou shalt neither mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.
24:16 "Son of man, behold, I am about to take from you the desire of your eyes with a blow; but you shall not mourn, and you shall not weep, and your tears shall not come.
24:17 Sigh, but not aloud, make no mourning for the dead; bind thy headtire upon thee, and put thy shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men.
24:17 "Groan silently; make no mourning for the dead. Bind on your turban, and put your shoes on your feet, and do not cover [your] mustache, and do not eat the bread of men."
24:18 So I spake unto the people in the morning; and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.
24:18 So I spoke to the people in the morning, and in the evening my wife died. And in the morning I did as I was commanded.
24:19 And the people said unto me, Wilt thou not tell us what these things are to us, that thou doest so?
24:19 And the people said to me, "Will you not tell us what these things that you are doing mean for us?"
24:20 Then I said unto them, The word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
24:20 Then I said to them, "The word of the LORD came to me saying,
24:21 Speak unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pitieth; and your sons and your daughters whom ye have left behind shall fall by the sword.
24:21 'Speak to the house of Israel, "Thus says the Lord GOD,' Behold, I am about to profane My sanctuary, the pride of your power, the desire of your eyes, and the delight of your soul; and your sons and your daughters whom you have left behind will fall by the sword.
24:22 And ye shall do as I have done: ye shall not cover your lips, nor eat the bread of men.
24:22 'And you will do as I have done; you will not cover [your] mustache, and you will not eat the bread of men.
24:23 And your tires shall be upon your heads, and your shoes upon your feet: ye shall not mourn nor weep; but ye shall pine away in your iniquities, and moan one toward another.
24:23 'And your turbans will be on your heads and your shoes on your feet. You will not mourn, and you will not weep; but you will rot away in your iniquities, and you will groan to one another.
24:24 Thus shall Ezekiel be unto you a sign; according to all that he hath done shall ye do: when this cometh, then shall ye know that I am the Lord Jehovah.
24:24 'Thus Ezekiel will be a sign to you; according to all that he has done you will do; when it comes, then you will know that I am the Lord GOD.' "
24:25 And thou, son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that whereupon they set their heart, their sons and their daughters,
24:25 'As for you, son of man, will [it] not be on the day when I take from them their stronghold, the joy of their pride, the desire of their eyes, and their heart's delight, their sons and their daughters,
24:26 that in that day he that escapeth shall come unto thee, to cause thee to hear it with thine ears?
24:26 that on that day he who escapes will come to you with information for [your] ears?
24:27 In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him that is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb: so shalt thou be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am Jehovah.
24:27 'On that day your mouth will be opened to him who escaped, and you will speak and be dumb no longer. Thus you will be a sign to them, and they will know that I am the LORD.' "
