15:1 And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
15:1 Then the word of the LORD came to me saying,

15:2 Son of man, what is the vine-tree more than any tree, the vine-branch which is among the trees of the forest?
15:2 "Son of man, how is the wood of the vine [better] than any wood of a branch which is among the trees of the forest?

15:3 Shall wood be taken thereof to make any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?
15:3 "Can wood be taken from it to make anything, or can [men] take a peg from it on which to hang any vessel?

15:4 Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire hath devoured both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned: is it profitable for any work?
15:4 "If it has been put into the fire for fuel, [and] the fire has consumed both of its ends, and its middle part has been charred, is it [then] useful for anything?

15:5 Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned, shall it yet be meet for any work!
15:5 "Behold, while it is intact, it is not made into anything. How much less, when the fire has consumed it and it is charred, can it still be made into anything!

15:6 Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: As the vine-tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
15:6 "Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, 'As the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so have I given up the inhabitants of Jerusalem;

15:7 And I will set my face against them; they shall go forth from the fire, but the fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am Jehovah, when I set my face against them.
15:7 and I set My face against them. [Though] they have come out of the fire, yet the fire will consume them. Then you will know that I am the LORD, when I set My face against them.

15:8 And I will make the land desolate, because they have committed a trespass, saith the Lord Jehovah.
15:8 'Thus I will make the land desolate, because they have acted unfaithfully,' "declares the Lord GOD.
