3:1 Now these are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that Jehovah spake with Moses in mount Sinai.
3:1 Now these are [the records of] the generations of Aaron and Moses at the time when the LORD spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai.

3:2 And these are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the first-born, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
3:2 These then are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the first-born, and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

3:3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests that were anointed, whom he consecrated to minister in the priest's office.
3:3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whom he ordained to serve as priests.

3:4 And Nadab and Abihu died before Jehovah, when they offered strange fire before Jehovah, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children; and Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest's office in the presence of Aaron their father.
3:4 But Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD when they offered strange fire before the LORD in the wilderness of Sinai; and they had no children. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests in the lifetime of their father Aaron.

3:5 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,
3:5 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

3:6 Bring the tribe of Levi near, and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister unto him.
3:6 "Bring the tribe of Levi near and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may serve him.

3:7 And they shall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, to do the service of the tabernacle.
3:7 "And they shall perform the duties for him and for the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, to do the service of the tabernacle.

3:8 And they shall keep all the furniture of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the children of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.
3:8 "They shall also keep all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, along with the duties of the sons of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.

3:9 And thou shalt give the Levites unto Aaron and to his sons: they are wholly given unto him on the behalf of the children of Israel.
3:9 "You shall thus give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons; they are wholly given to him from among the sons of Israel.

3:10 And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall keep their priesthood: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.
3:10 "So you shall appoint Aaron and his sons that they may keep their priesthood, but the layman who comes near shall be put to death."

3:11 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,
3:11 Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

3:12 And I, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the first-born that openeth the womb among the children of Israel; and the Levites shall be mine:
3:12 "Now, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the sons of Israel instead of every first-born, the first issue of the womb among the sons of Israel. So the Levites shall be Mine.

3:13 for all the first-born are mine; on the day that I smote all the first-born in the land of Egypt I hallowed unto me all the first-born in Israel, both man and beast; mine they shall be: I am Jehovah.
3:13 "For all the first-born are Mine; on the day that I struck down all the first-born in the land of Egypt, I sanctified to Myself all the first-born in Israel, from man to beast. They shall be Mine; I am the LORD."

3:14 And Jehovah spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying,
3:14 Then the LORD spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying,

3:15 Number the children of Levi by their fathers' houses, by their families: every male from a month old and upward shalt thou number them.
3:15 "Number the sons of Levi by their fathers' households, by their families; every male from a month old and upward you shall number."

3:16 And Moses numbered them according to the word of Jehovah, as he was commanded.
3:16 So Moses numbered them according to the word of the LORD, just as he had been commanded.

3:17 And these were the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari.
3:17 These then are the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon and Kohath and Merari.

3:18 And these are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei.

3:21 Of Gershon [was] the family of the Libnites and the family of the Shimeites; these [were] the families of the Gershonites.

3:22 Those that were numbered of them, according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, even those that were numbered of them were seven thousand and five hundred.
3:22 Their numbered men, in the numbering of every male from a month old and upward, [even] their numbered men [were] 75000.

3:23 The families of the Gershonites shall encamp behind the tabernacle westward.
3:23 The families of the Gershonites were to camp behind the tabernacle westward,

3:24 And the prince of the fathers' house of the Gershonites shall be Eliasaph the son of Lael.
3:24 and the leader of the fathers' households of the Gershonites [was] Eliasaph the son of Lael.

3:25 And the charge of the sons of Gershon in the tent of meeting shall be the tabernacle, and the Tent, the covering thereof, and the screen for the door of the tent of meeting,
3:25 Now the duties of the sons of Gershon in the tent of meeting [involved] the tabernacle and the tent, its covering, and the screen for the doorway of the tent of meeting,

3:26 and the hangings of the court, and the screen for the door of the court, which is by the tabernacle, and by the altar round about, and the cords of it for all the service thereof.
3:26 and the hangings of the court, and the screen for the doorway of the court, which is around the tabernacle and the altar, and its cords, according to all the service concerning them.

3:27 And of Kohath was the family of the Amramites, and the family of the Izharites, and the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites: these are the families of the Kohathites.
3:27 And of Kohath [was] the family of the Amramites and the family of the Izharites and the family of the Hebronites and the family of the Uzzielites; these were the families of the Kohathites.

3:28 According to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, there were eight thousand and six hundred, keeping the charge of the sanctuary.
3:28 In the numbering of every male from a month old and upward, [there were] 86000, performing the duties of the sanctuary.

3:29 The families of the sons of Kohath shall encamp on the side of the tabernacle southward.
3:29 The families of the sons of Kohath were to camp on the southward side of the tabernacle,

3:30 And the prince of the fathers' house of the families of the Kohathites shall be Elizaphan the son of Uzziel.
3:30 and the leader of the fathers' households of the Kohathite families was Elizaphan the son of Uzziel.

3:31 And their charge shall be the ark, and the table, and the candlestick, and the altars, and the vessels of the sanctuary wherewith they minister, and the screen, and all the service thereof.
3:31 Now their duties [involved] the ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, and the utensils of the sanctuary with which they minister, and the screen, and all the service concerning them;

3:32 And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be prince of the princes of the Levites, (and have) the oversight of them that keep the charge of the sanctuary.
3:32 and Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest [was] the chief of the leaders of Levi, [and had] the oversight of those who perform the duties of the sanctuary.

3:33 Of Merari was the family of the Mahlites, and the family of the Mushites: these are the families of Merari.
3:33 Of Merari [was] the family of the Mahlites and the family of the Mushites; these [were] the families of Merari.

3:34 And those that were numbered of them, according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, were six thousand and two hundred.
3:34 Their numbered men in the numbering of every male from a month old and upward, [were] 62000.

3:35 And the prince of the fathers' house of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail: they shall encamp on the side of the tabernacle northward.

3:36 Now the appointed duties of the sons of Merari [involved] the frames of the tabernacle, its bars, its pillars, its sockets, all its equipment, and the service concerning them,

3:37 and the pillars of the court round about, and their sockets, and their pins, and their cords.
3:37 and the pillars around the court with their sockets and their pegs and their cords.

3:38 And those that encamp before the tabernacle eastward, before the tent of meeting toward the sunrising, shall be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of the children of Israel; and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.
3:38 Now those who were to camp before the tabernacle eastward, before the tent of meeting toward the sunrise, are Moses and Aaron and his sons, performing the duties of the sanctuary for the obligation of the sons of Israel; but the layman coming near was to be put to death.

3:39 All that were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron numbered at the commandment of Jehovah, by their families, all the males from a month old and upward, were twenty and two thousand.
3:39 All the numbered men of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron numbered at the command of the LORD by their families, every male from a month old and upward, [were] 220000.

3:40 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Number all the first-born males of the children of Israel from a month old and upward, and take the number of their names.
3:40 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Number every first-born male of the sons of Israel from a month old and upward, and make a list of their names.

3:41 And thou shalt take the Levites for me (I am Jehovah) instead of all the first-born among the children of Israel; and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstlings among the cattle of the children of Israel:
3:41 "And you shall take the Levites for Me, I am the LORD, instead of all the first-born among the sons of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the first-born among the cattle of the sons of Israel."

3:42 and Moses numbered, as Jehovah commanded him, all the first-born among the children of Israel.
3:42 So Moses numbered all the first-born among the sons of Israel, just as the LORD had commanded him;

3:43 And all the first-born males according to the number of names, from a month old and upward, of those that were numbered of them, were twenty and two thousand two hundred and threescore and thirteen.
3:43 and all the first-born males by the number of names from a month old and upward, for their numbered men were 222733.

3:44 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,
3:44 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

3:45 Take the Levites instead of all the first-born among the children of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of their cattle; and the Levites shall be mine: I am Jehovah.
3:45 "Take the Levites instead of all the first-born among the sons of Israel and the cattle of the Levites. And the Levites shall be Mine; I am the LORD.

3:46 And for the redemption of the two hundred and threescore and thirteen of the first-born of the children of Israel, that are over and above (the number of) the Levites,
3:46 "And for the ransom of the 273 of the first-born of the sons of Israel who are in excess beyond the Levites,

3:47 thou shalt take five shekels apiece by the poll; after the shekel of the sanctuary shalt thou take them (the shekel is twenty gerahs):
3:47 you shall take five shekels apiece, per head; you shall take [them] in terms of the shekel of the sanctuary (the shekel is twenty gerahs),

3:48 and thou shalt give the money, wherewith the odd number of them is redeemed, unto Aaron and to his sons.
3:48 and give the money, the ransom of those who are in excess among them, to Aaron and to his sons. "

3:49 And Moses took the redemption-money from them that were over and above them that were redeemed by the Levites;
3:49 So Moses took the ransom money from those who were in excess, beyond those ransomed by the Levites;

3:50 from the first-born of the children of Israel took he the money, a thousand three hundred and threescore and five (shekels), after the shekel of the sanctuary:
3:50 from the first-born of the sons of Israel he took the money in terms of the shekel of the sanctuary, 13655.

3:51 and Moses gave the redemption-money unto Aaron and to his sons, according to the word of Jehovah, as Jehovah commanded Moses.
3:51 Then Moses gave the ransom money to Aaron and to his sons, at the command of the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
