19:1 And the two angels came to Sodom at even. And Lot sat in the gate of Sodom. And Lot saw them, and rose up to meet them. And he bowed himself with his face to the earth.
19:1 Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening as Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw [them,] he rose to meet them and bowed down [with his] face to the ground.

19:2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn aside, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your way. And they said, Nay. But we will abide in the street all night.
19:2 And he said, "Now behold, my lords, please turn aside into your servant's house, and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way." They said however, "No, but we shall spend the night in the square."

19:3 And he urged them greatly. And they turned in unto him, and entered into his house. And he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.
19:3 Yet he urged them strongly, so they turned aside to him and entered his house; and he prepared a feast for them, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

19:4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, (even) the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both young and old, all the people from every quarter.
19:4 Before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, surrounded the house, both young and old, all the people from every quarter;

19:5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men that came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
19:5 and they called to Lot and said to him, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may have relations with them."

19:6 And Lot went out unto them to the door, and shut the door after him.
19:6 But Lot went out to them at the doorway, and shut the door behind him,

19:7 And he said, I pray you, my brethren, do not so wickedly.
19:7 and said, "Please, my brothers, do not act wickedly.

19:8 Behold now, I have two daughters that have not known man. Let me, I pray you, bring them but unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes. Only unto these men do nothing, forasmuch as they are come under the shadow of my roof.
19:8 "Now behold, I have two daughters who have not had relations with man; please let me bring them out to you, and do to them whatever you like; only do nothing to these men, inasmuch as they have come under the shelter of my roof."

19:9 And they said, Stand back. And they said, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge. Now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and drew near to break the door.
19:9 But they said, "Stand aside." Furthermore, they said, "This one came in as an alien, and already he is acting like a judge; now we will treat you worse than them." So they pressed hard against Lot and came near to break the door.

19:10 But the men put forth their hand, and brought Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.
19:10 But the men reached out their hands and brought Lot into the house with them, and shut the door.

19:11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied themselves to find the door.
19:11 And they struck the men who were at the doorway of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied [themselves trying] to find the doorway.

19:12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? Son-in-law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whomsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of the place.
19:12 Then the men said to Lot, "Whom else have you here? A son-in-law, and your sons, and your daughters, and whomever you have in the city, bring [them] out of the place;

19:13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxed great before Jehovah. And Jehovah hath sent us to destroy it.
19:13 for we are about to destroy this place, because their outcry has become so great before the LORD that the LORD has sent us to destroy it. "

19:14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons-in-law, who married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place. For Jehovah will destroy the city. But he seemed unto his sons-in-law as one that mocked.
19:14 And Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were to marry his daughters, and said, "Up, get out of this place, for the LORD will destroy the city." But he appeared to his sons-in-law to be jesting.

19:15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters that are here, lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.
19:15 And when morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, "Up, take your wife and your two daughters, who are here, lest you be swept away in the punishment of the city."

19:16 But he lingered. And the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters, Jehovah being merciful unto him. And they brought him forth, and set him without the city.
19:16 But he hesitated. So the men seized his hand and the hand of his wife and the hands of his two daughters, for the compassion of the LORD [> was] upon him; and they brought him out, and put him outside the city.

19:17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth, abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life. Look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the Plain. Escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.
19:17 And it came about when they had brought them outside, that one said, "Escape for your life! Do not look behind you, and do not stay anywhere in the valley; escape to the mountains, lest you be swept away."

19:18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my lord.
19:18 But Lot said to them, "Oh no, my lords!

19:19 Behold now, thy servant hath found favor in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy lovingkindness, which thou hast showed unto me in saving my life. And I cannot escape to the mountain, lest evil overtake me, and I die.
19:19 "Now behold, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have magnified your lovingkindness, which you have shown me by saving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountains, lest the disaster overtake me and I die;

19:20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one. Oh let me escape thither (is it not a little one?), and my soul shall live.
19:20 now behold, this town is near [enough] to flee to, and it is small. Please, let me escape there (is it not small?) that my life may be saved. "

19:21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow the city of which thou hast spoken.
19:21 And he said to him, "Behold, I grant you this request also, not to overthrow the town of which you have spoken.

19:22 Haste thee, escape thither. For I cannot do anything till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
19:22 "Hurry, escape there, for I cannot do anything until you arrive there." Therefore the name of the town was called Zoar.

19:23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot came unto Zoar.
19:23 The sun had risen over the earth when Lot came to Zoar.

19:24 Then Jehovah rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Jehovah out of heaven.
19:24 Then the LORD rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven,

19:25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the Plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
19:25 and He overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.

19:26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
19:26 But his wife, from behind him, looked [back;] and she became a pillar of salt.

19:27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he had stood before Jehovah.
19:27 Now Abraham arose early in the morning [and went] to the place where he had stood before the LORD;

19:28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the Plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the land went up as the smoke of a furnace.
19:28 and he looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the valley, and he saw, and behold, the smoke of the land ascended like the smoke of a furnace.

19:29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the Plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt.
19:29 Thus it came about, when God destroyed the cities of the valley, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when He overthrew the cities in which Lot lived.

19:30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him. For he feared to dwell in Zoar. And he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.
19:30 And Lot went up from Zoar, and stayed in the mountains, and his two daughters with him; for he was afraid to stay in Zoar; and he stayed in a cave, he and his two daughters.

19:31 And the first-born said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth.
19:31 Then the first-born said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to come in to us after the manner of the earth.

19:32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
19:32 "Come, let us make our father drink wine, and let us lie with him, that we may preserve our family through our father."

19:33 And they made their father drink wine that night. And the first-born went in, and lay with her father. And he knew not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
19:33 So they made their father drink wine that night, and the first-born went in and lay with her father; and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.

19:34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the first-born said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father. Let us make him drink wine this night also. And go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
19:34 And it came about on the morrow, that the first-born said to the younger, "Behold, I lay last night with my father; let us make him drink wine tonight also; then you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve our family through our father."

19:35 And they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose, and lay with him. And he knew not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
19:35 So they made their father drink wine that night also, and the younger arose and lay with him; and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.

19:36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.
19:36 Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father.

19:37 And the first-born bare a son, and called his name Moab. The same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.
19:37 And the first-born bore a son, and called his name Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day.

19:38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Ben-ammi. The same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.
19:38 And as for the younger, she also bore a son, and called his name Ben-ammi; he is the father of the sons of Ammon to this day.
